sean hayden, artist

I WAS FIRST introduced to Fine Art whilst attending Helston Community College in Cornwall.

This enabled me to achieve advanced qualifications in art and design, under the tutorial guidance of nationally acclaimed artist Phil Whiting. He installed in me the self belief and confidence I needed to be a creative, inventive and serious artist.

My work for the last ten years has gone through some dramatic changes, from Abstract to Abstract Expressionist. I feel that I have now found a style that best suits my method and temperament.

My inspiration lies in the scenes and experiences of my every day life, a kind of observed reality. Buildings and locations particularly, have a profound and personal influence on me as a visual artist.

Examples of this are my paintings of local scenes such as Porthleven Harbour, Truro Lemon Quay and Exeter city centre. I have also enjoyed painting scenes from my frequent visits to London such as the London Eye, Trains coming into Waterloo, The Embankment and underground stations.

I have exhibited at the Southwest Academy of Fine Art Summer Open Exhibition 2004 and the St Ives Society Open Figurative Exhibition 2008. I have paintings in private collections, Cornwall, Brighton, Glasgow and London.

Whilst painting the human figure it is important to capture the mood and emotions of the study, to re-create the perceptions of reality on a flat surface through the application with conspicuous marks of a substantial material used in abundance.
